Activities:

Active Learning:

Pass around a real green apple, left whole. Allow the children to describe the apple using their sense of sight, smell and touch. (Each child should hold the apple and say a descriptive word as time allows.) Write down all the words used to describe the apple. Pass out green apple slices. Using your sense of hearing and taste, describe the apple. Write down all of those words used to describe the apple.

Each child should hold the apple and say a descriptive word. Pass around a plastic apple. Cross out words listed on the chart that do not describe a plastic apple. Do the same with a paper apple and the word "apple."

This lesson allows children to study the real thing rather than just seeing a vocabulary word.

Food Pyramid:

Have the students complete a food pyramid using the foods they ate for breakfast, lunch, dinner and snack.
