About the Music Collection

The Music Collection of the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh (CLP) is one of the outstanding public library music collections in the United States, with close to 80,000 books and scores; 28,000 recordings; 400 periodical, newsletter and serial titles; an expansive video and DVD collection; music scores in CD-ROM and online versions; online databases for research and listening to music; and numerous special files and indexes that cover all aspects of music, including material related to music in the Pittsburgh area.

CD-ROM music scores can be found on the shelf in the "CD-ROM Collection." CD-ROM scores appear in the catalog as a Music Score with the words "electronic resource" after the title. To search in the catalog, use "Advanced Keyword." Enter the composer name and the words "electronic resource." Then limit the material type to Music Scores.

The Carnegie Library subscribes to the following guitar periodicals. These can only be used in the library.

Acoustic Guitar (U.S., 2003 to date)
Monthly. Profiles and interviews of classical and other acoustic guitar players. Articles on guitar construction, artwork, playing and other topics. Directory of guitar makers.

Classical Guitar (England, 1997 to date)
Monthly journal. Articles on classical guitar news, playing techniques, interviews and profiles of classical guitarists. Reviews of sound recordings. Directories of events, festivals, competitions, concerts and classical guitar societies.

Guitar One (U.S., 1993 to date)
Monthly magazine. Interviews with rock, jazz and blues guitar players. Reviews of guitars (mostly electric), gear and sound recordings. Guitar scores and tabs. Magazine merged with "Guitar for the Practicing Musician" in 1999.

Guitar Player (U.S., October 1985 to date)
Monthly magazine focusing mostly on rock guitar. Features many reviews of electric guitars, gear and sound recordings. Each issue includes tips on playing. There are music scores and tabs of guitar riffs and leads.

Guitar Review (U.S., 1990 to date)
Quarterly international journal on classical guitar. Includes sometimes lengthy profiles of classical guitarists. Lists information on guitar competitions, classes and scholarships as well as reviews of sound recordings, music scores and concerts.
