And the Oscar Prizes go to…
The Red Carpet has been rolled up and we have our Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh Oscar Contest winners. It was a good race, with over 250 people participating. Just like the real Oscars, our contest results held a few surprises: no one got all ten predictions correct. Several savvy movie fans got eight of the ten correct and were entered into a drawing for the top two prizes. There were also six entries with no correct predictions, but we have consolation prizes for those folks.
The categories with the most overall correct predictions were Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor. Many people split their vote between No Country for Old Men and There Will Be Blood for Best Picture and Best Director. Cate Blanchett and Ruby Dee were the top picks for Best Supporting Actress, and Julie Christie for Best Actress.
We threw in a couple of secondary categories to make things a little more interesting, and it worked. The Best Visual Effects category was evenly split among the three nominees, and Albert Wolsky was a popular pick for Best Costume Designer (for Across the Universe). A couple of surprises among our entries: Casey Affleck got an impressive number of nods for Best Supporting Actor, along with Julian Schnabel for Best Director.
