Storytelling and Folklore Collections

Our Storytelling and Folklore collections include traditional tales retold in picture book form as well as collections of traditional tales. A great variety of ethnicities and time periods are represented, including African, American, Celtic, Chinese, German, and Polish folklore. Many of the folklore collections feature illustrations by well-known illustrators, sometimes representing their early work.

Storytelling resources include folklore indices, searchable by theme or motif, title, ethnicity, or story elements. Our storytelling resources also include:

  • History and philosophy of storytelling
  • Performance guides and handbooks
  • Program planning
