Award Winning Books
The Children's Department holds a complete collection of all the Newbery Medal books, 1922-present and all the Caldecott Medal books, 1938-present. These are reference books and do not circulate. They must be used in the building. We also have circulating copies of most of these books which can be checked out.
Influential Illustrators
The work of early illustrators shows how the art of children's book illustration has changed over the years. Children's book illustration is some of the most exciting art being produced today. Our extensive picture book collection includes historical and modern work.

One Book Every Young Child
Pennsylvania's One Book, Every Young Child program highlights the importance of early literacy development in preschoolers ages 3 to 6. The selected book for 2012 is Stop Snoring, Bernard! written and illustrated by Zachariah OHora. This year's program officially kicks off on March 27, 2012.
