Witches of Western Pennsylvania: Occult History and Lore
Tuesday, October 22, 2013
Local author and historian Thomas White will discuss the long and strange history of witchcraft and folk magic in the Keystone State. Beginning with a witch trial presided over by William Penn, White will cover the development of witchcraft, especially among the state’s English and German population, from colonial times through the hex murders of the 1920s and 1930s. From there he will talk about the role of the witch in modern urban legends and why the belief in witchcraft persists even today.
