Fiction, Film and Fun: Imperial Life in the Emerald City/Green Zone

Thursday, June 20, 2013
1:00 PM - 4:00 PM

Join CCAC's Jeanne Bergad to discuss Imperial Life in the Emerald City: Inside Iraq's Green Zone, by Rajiv Chandrasekaran. Chandrasekaran, the Washington Post’s former Baghdad bureau chief, takes readers inside the Green Zone, the headquarters for the American occupation of Iraq. Combining material gathered from interviews and internal documents, Chandrasekaran shows how inexperience, political maneuvering and profiteering caused the provisional government, the Coalition Provisional Authority, to ultimately fail in its efforts to rebuild Iraq. Part of the book was adapted into the 2010 film Green Zone. Green Zone was directed by Paul Greengrass and starred Matt Damon as Chief Warrant Officer Roy Miller, the leader of a military team deployed to find weapons of mass destruction in Iraq.
