World Kaleidoscope presents the Otets Paisii Performing Ensemble

Sunday, November 24, 2013 | Other Dates
2:00 PM - 3:00 PM

The Bulgarian Macedonian National Educational and Cultural Center’s (BMNECC) Otets Paissii Performing Ensemble has been delighting local and international audiences for many years. This talented group of singers, dancers and musicians is one of the main attractions at the annual Pittsburgh International Folk Festival. The group presents its annual concert each autumn at the Carnegie Library Music Hall in Homestead, and performs regularly at venues throughout Pittsburgh and southwestern Pennsylvania. Joy Holden is the ensemble’s Managing Director and Bilyana Stoyanova Stafura is Dance Director and Choreographer. Guest choreographers also contribute to many of the group’s performances. Costume and Wardrobe Supervisor Julie Rhyner dresses the performers in sparkling, colorful costumes, many of which include antique embellishments. The ensemble is named for Otets Paissii, the monk who wrote the first comprehensive history of the Bulgarian people.
