World Kaleidoscope: Mark Tamsula & Richard Withers w/ Ellen Gozion

Sunday, September 23, 2012 | Other Dates
2:00 PM - 3:00 PM

Mark Tamsula and Richard Withers will perform traditional Appalachian music from Southwestern PA. They will present their arrangements of tunes collected by the renowned music historian Samuel Bayard, who visited fiddlers and fifers in this area between 1928 and 1963, and published over 1000 of their tunes in two books. Sam Bayard and his source musicians are gone, but Tamsula and Withers have brought their tunes back to life on fiddle and banjo, with some renditions on flute, guitar, harmonica and accordion. Ellen Gozion will join them to sing traditional ballads from this region.
