The Sound of Things Falling, by Juan Gabriel Vasquez

Bogota, Columbia is in chaos because of the violence spread by drug cartels. Antonio Yammara, a law professor, becomes friends with a stranger named Ricardo Laverde. One night the men are gunned down. Ricardo is killed and Antonio is seriously wounded. Returned to health, Antonio cannot stop thinking about the event and realizes that he really didn’t know his friend. He goes on a journey to gather as much information about Ricardo that he can. The Sound of Things of Falling is a rich narrative about the way people’s lives are entwined and similarities that occur even if you might not be aware of them.
