Sustaining Our Future: Community Conversation

Thank You for Joining the Conversation!

Last year, we held three sets of community workshops to discuss ways to ensure that the Library remains operationally and financially healthy. More than 1,400 people participated (either in person or online) in the workshops. The net result of the process has been three-fold: (1) a group of people now understands the challenges facing the Library (2) the Library has inspired communities to support their branches through advocacy and fundraising; and (3) the Library has good qualitative information from the public to inform strategies for the future.

You can see the results of those workshops below.

September 2010 Workshops

July 2010 Workshops

Thanks to everyone who participated in Part Two of our three part Community Conversation process. Over 200 people shared their thoughts by attending one of our four community workshops.

May 2010 Workshops

Thanks to everyone who participated in Part One of our three part Community Conversation process. Close to 600 people shared their thoughts by attending one of four community workshops and/or completing the Part One Discussion Guide. Draft summaries of all workshops have been distributed to participants for review, and will be finalized and posted here before the end of June.

The Process

This three-part community process is designed to engage the public, the Library staff, the Library Board of Trustees, and several other key stakeholders in an open and transparent discussion about the Library's future. The graphic below provides an overview of the process, and shows the close connections between the different activities.
