Once upon a time, 22 talented young women wanted to go to a ball. Their year-long journey took them on a literary adventure - supporting events and programs throughout the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh system.
These young women are the Cinderella Ball's class of 2011. Founded in 1924, the Ball is Pittsburgh's oldest charity event and the second oldest debutante ball in America. Before making her entrance into society, each debutante is required to volunteer with a local nonprofit chosen as the Ball's beneficiary.
Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh is the recipient of 725 volunteer hours, and $50,000 from the proceeds of the 85th Cinderella Ball supporting the Library's mission of literacy and learning.
>> Katharine Follansbee Reineman clocked 75 hours of volunteer service to earn the competitive Cinderella Women's Committee scholarship for exemplary commitment to volunteer leadership.
